Located in Italy at the extreme south-west side of the Friuli Venezia Giulia region, bordering on the Veneto region, Lignano Sabbiadoro (Ud) is a wonderful peninsula designed by the river Tagliamento estuary and by the currents of the sea.
Situated half way between Venice and Trieste, Lignano is easily reached from the nearby railway stations of Latisana (Ud) and Portogruaro (Ve), from the A4 motorway exit in Latisana and from the Trieste “Ronchi dei Legionari” and Venice “Marco Polo” airports. The area is 1500 acres wide and the Marano lagoon marks the boundary on the North side, the river Tagliamento on the West and the Adriatic sea on the South and East sides.
The Lignano peninsula is divided into three areas, all exclusively dedicated to relaxation and fun.
Lignano Sabbiadoro is the centre of the town of Lignano and characterised by the long high street, recently made into a pedestrian area, lined with the twinkling shop windows of the most famous designers, night clubs and wine bars as well as ice cream parlours and amusement arcades for the delight of the children. At sunset you can find traditional and modern restaurants, American bars, and also shops that stay open until late and the “Terrazza a Mare”, always ready to welcome you with cool drinks and plenty of live music.
Lignano Pineta is a unique urban realization, a perfect symbiosis between nature and geometry. Dictated by the original urban spiral development, it is a tourist resort completely enclosed in the green pinewood, but with all possible comforts. Ernest Hemingway stayed here, contributing greatly to the promotion of the resort and describing it as the “Italian Florida”. The famous Italian actor Alberto Sordi, who had a house in Pineta, was one of the Lignano society protagonists in the 60’s. The town centre is situated along the “Train” that cuts through the green spiral, a popular shopping area and trendy meeting place.
Lignano Riviera is the most recent part of the Lignano peninsula, with plenty of elegant facilities which will make your holiday unforgettable (the spa, the wet docks, the Golf Club, the riding schools, …)
Riviera is characterized by vast green areas where it is possible to take pleasant walks under the shade of beautiful trees and organize bicycle rides, rewarding for both the body and the mind.
