In the lagoon in front of Porto Baseleghe in the far west of Bibione you can admire the characteristic and fascinating houses called `casoni´ built by the use of marsh canes and wood. They are located in the natural valley of the lagoon and can be visited on organized tours allowing you to spend a whole day in touch with nature enjoying the atmosphere of the past. The entrance of these typical houses consists of a small door and the furniture inside is very simple but functional: a bed, a fireplace in the middle of the room and a table surrounded by benches. The casoni remember the ties of man to nature and former activities like hunting and fishing. Besides the pine grove there is the vast lagoon area. A fascinating landscape of cane thickets and fisher houses. Early in the morning with the first sunbeams you can observe the magic awakening of nature close to the sandbanks when the colours of different water bird species are reflected in the water and the roofs of the casoni are lighted up by the sun. Also swans have chosen this natural area of Bibione as their natural habitat and live undisturbed in the lagoon environment.
